Wilma Eaton

Wilma A. Eaton, age 98 of Fairbury, Nebraska, formerly of Mankato, Kansas, died August 30, 2018.  She was born September 14, 1919, at Jansen, Nebraska to Fred and Anna (Scholle) Siebe.  Wilma married Vernon L. Eaton on February 1, 1939 and lived in Fairbury, Nebraska.  They had five children while living there.

Wilma moved with her family to Mankato in 1948, when Vernon wanted to be in the center of his work calling on grocery stores, so he could be home more with the family.

Wilma worked at Sleepy Hollow doing laundry for a time.  Mostly, she was a stay at home mother.

She was an excellent seamstress and worked at that after they moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, so Vernon could finish his years working for Fleming Grocery Co.  They moved back to Mankato in 1981, when he retired.

Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; husband – Vernon, 4 brothers, and 6 sisters.

She is survived by her children – Gary and wife Rita Eaton of Panama City, Florida; LeRoy and wife, Marilyn Eaton of Mankato, Kansas; Sharon Regnier of Mankato, Kansas; Judy and husband, Jim Frager of Fairbury, Nebraska; Beverly and husband, Duane Becker of Catawissa, Missouri; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life service for Wilma Eaton will be (was) Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at 2:00 p.m., at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mankato, Kansas, with Pastor Dennis Beckmann officiating.  Interment will be (was) in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Mankato, Kansas.  Visitation will be (was) Monday, September 3, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Tuesday, September 4, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Melby Mortuary, Mankato, Kansas.  The family suggests memorials to Evangelical Lutheran Church, Golden Years Club or donor’s choice, in care of the Mortuary.  Melby Mortuary, Mankato, Kansas, was in charge of arrangements.
