Steven Wayne King 65, Webber, Kansas passed away at his home on June 13, 2020. Steven King was born February 4, 1955 at St. Mary's Hospital in Emporia, Kansas , the son of Wayne E. and Wanda (Gardner) King.
Surviving family members include his mother, Wanda and step father, Lowell Chambers, Emporia, KS. step daughter April (Brian) Collicott, grandsons, Michael and Nickolas Collicott, Hastings, NE; sisters, Susan (Daniel) Johnson, Emporia, KS and Linda (Jim) Cunningham, Topeka, KS; nieces and nephews, Jill, Matt, Carla, Randall & Marsha and many other family members and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Edgar King in 1986 and his grandparents of Burlington, KS.
He attended Butcher Children's School, Roosevelt Jr. High and graduated Emporia High School in 1973. Sports was a big part of his life, participating in sports in school, and Catcher in Little League Baseball and Legion Baseball Teams in Emporia.
Steve was baptized in Emporia Grace United Methodist Church in 1955 and active through the years in Sunday School, Youth Group and a member of Boy Scout Troop 165, reaching the rank of Life Scout. His Scout Master was Lowell Chambers. Steve loved the out-of-doors and God's creation of nature; fishing and hunting whenever time and weather permitted.
Steve moved to Superior, NE and began his truck driving career where he worked for Paul Utecht Trucking, Dahlsten Trucking Company and most recently Werner Construction Co. He retired from Werner Construction Company.
Steve also enjoyed being a professional "Santa Claus" at 'Six Flags Mall' in Dallas, Texas for several years, and continued when requested for family Christmas's which was always memorable.
After retirement he loved going Goose hunting in the area with friends from far and near, and fishing with grandsons and others on the Republican River and Lovewell Lake, sharing his catch and game with family, neighbors and friends.
It was Steven’s wishes to be cremated. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 am, Wed., June 24, 2020 at The Limestone Church at Lovewell State Park, Webber, KS. Those of Steven’s friends who have stories to share with the family and at the memorial services, please email those to [email protected] . Those attending the memorial services will be exempt from the requirement of a State park permit for that day. Friends may sign the register book from 12-5 pm, Tues., June 23, 2020 at Megrue-Price Funeral Home, Superior, NE. Burial of the cremains will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Burlington, KS at 1:30 pm, Saturday, July 11, 2020 with Richard Goza officiating. The family suggests memorials to WildTrust, Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism, 512 SE 25th Ave., Pratt, KS 67124 or in care of the funeral home.
