Shana (Kitchener) Ruthstrom

Shana Helene Ruthstrom, 69, Mankato, died Sunday, December 10, 2017, at the Jewell County Hospital.

Shana was born on January 8, 1948 on her family farm in Oakhill, Kansas, to Frederick and Eugenia (Chrzanowska) Kitchener. She attended Hammerli and Oakhill Grade Schools and graduated from Longford Rural High School with the class of 1966. She attended Cloud County Community College and Kaw Valley Technical College, Topeka, where she received her nursing degree.

She worked as an LPN for 46 years before retiring, caring for many patients throughout her career, working for Dr. Richard Carleton, Clay County Health Department, and Jewell County Hospital.

Shana was a loving, and devoted mother and grandmother. Left to mourn her are her three children: Amy (Gary) Feigley, Enterprise; Kristin (Ervin) Underwood, Mankato; and Ben (Krista) Ruthstrom, Osborne; grandchildren Sam, Jacob, Aaron, and Allison Underwood, Alexa Frisbie, and Annika Ruthstrom; sister Trudy (Charles) Yingling, Winfield, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers David, and Brian.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 14, at Melby Mortuary, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Her funeral will be Friday, December 15 at 10:30 a.m. at the Oakhill Presbyterian Church, Oakhill, Kansas. Final resting place will be at the Rose Meron Cemetery, Oakhill, Kansas.

Memorials may be made to Jewell County Hospital Activities Department, Oakhill Presbyterian Church, or Central and Western Kansas Chapter of Alzheimer’s Association.
