Roger D. "Charlie" Zeigler

July 22, 1953 — August 25, 2020

Roger D. “Charlie” Zeigler, 67, of Mankato, passed away August 25, 2020 at his home in Mankato. He was born in Red Cloud, Nebraska to Byron and Ilene Zeigler. Ilene later married and moved to Burr Oak, KS where Roger and his siblings were raised by Ilene and Stepfather Max Bell. Roger attended Burr Oak Schools and graduated High School in 1972.

Roger met the love of his life, Linda A. (Crouch) Zeigler, and married December 21, 1973. Roger loved the outdoors and thoroughly enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with family and friends. He loved animals and later in life he grew more affectionate to cats especially homeless and injured cats nursing them back to health. Roger was a dedicated and hard worker, starting at the age of fourteen until he retired in 2018. He worked for the Dubuque Packing Company, Downs Pork Packing Plant, Ost Dethloff and Ost (ODO) Farm, and finally ending his blue-collar career with the Jewell County Highway and Road Department. Roger was known by many alias’s, Husband, Hun, Dad, Popo, Grandpa, Charlie, Chaz, Uncle and Pappy. He was a devout husband, father, Grandfather and friend.

He is survived by his Wife Linda Zeigler; Daughter, Kimberly Loomis (Marvin Loomis) of Mankato; Sons, Shane Zeigler (Cassy Zeigler) of Hays, Brenton Zeigler (Leah Zeigler) of Jericho, Vermont, and Travis Zeigler (Nicolette Zeigler) of Wamego. Siblings: Rodney Zeigler of Burr Oak, Rejeana Stithem of Salina, Dorothy Bell of Mankato, and Max (Butch) Bell of Salina. Grandchildren: Autumn Loomis, Patrick Loomis, Byron Zeigler, Jackson Zeigler, and Katie Zeigler; Step-Grandchildren: Brice Loomis, Kevin Loomis, and Lynn Loomis. Great Grandchild: Octavia Loomis; Step Great-Grandchildren: Isabella Loomis, Carson & MaKinley Wagner and Reagan Loomis.

He was preceded in death by his parents Byron Zeigler, Max Bell (Step Father) and Ilene Bell.

Graveside funeral service will be at Mount Hope Cemetery on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Thadd Hinkle officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, August 29, 2020 at Melby Mortuary from 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Broadstone Foundation (Chemo Infusion Center) in Superior Nebraska; or Solomon Valley Hospice Care in c/o of Melby Mortuary PO Box 384, Mankato, KS. 66956.
