Robert (Bob) L. Hines, 80, a long-time resident of Martell, Nebraska, died October 3 in Burr Oak, Kansas.
Born on May 30, 1944 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Gladys (Werger) Hines and James Hines, Bob grew up on his family’s homestead between Sprague and Martell, Nebraska. Bob graduated from Central High School in Martell in 1962 and enlisted in the Air National Guard.
Bob enjoyed working with his hands, and between various jobs as a farmer, inventor, truck driver and mechanic, Bob found time to restore classic cars and work on sprint cars. At a racetrack in Eagle, NE is where he met his late wife, Terry, and at the races in Knoxville, IA is where they were married.
Bob moved to Burr Oak, Kansas in 2007, spending his retirement helping with the harvest, helping out at the racetrack, helping out his neighbors, and enjoying conversation at the cafe.
He is survived by his brother, Bill Hines and sister-in-law Sherry Hines of Lincoln, Nebraska; his nephew Craig Hines of Houston, TX; his children Tiffany and Tami; Laura Thompson and husband Monte Thompson, Lincoln, NE; Elizabeth Boyle and husband Matthew Boyle, Grand Island, NE; his four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife Terry Hollamon-Hines, and his daughter Lisa Deuel.
A pie social and celebration of life will be held for Bob on Friday, October 18 at 2:30 PM at the Burr Oak Community Center. Memorials may be made to the Burr Oak Community Center in care of Melby Mortuary, P.O. Box 384, Mankato, KS 66956
