Matthew "Matt" James Howell

Matthew “Matt” James Howell, 39, of Formoso, Kansas passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at Hilltop Lodge Nursing Home in Beloit, Ks surrounded by his loving family after a brief but courageous battle with kidney cancer. He was born on May 1, 1985 in Salina, Kansas to James and Nancy (Weir) Howell.

Matt grew up in Formoso, Kansas and graduated from Mankato High School in 2003. He then attended Fort Hays State University and majored in Criminal Justice. Matthew was a gentle giant and loved people but especially animals. He also loved Notre Dame Football, professional wrestling, and gaming. During Jr. High and High School Matt played Center for the Cougars football team, and threw the shot put and discus for the track team. He was especially good at throwing the discus. 

Matthew is survived by his parents, Jim and Nancy Howell, Formoso, Ks; a sister, Melissa Herrman (Michael), Great Bend, Ks and their two children Jacob and Ashley Herrman. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Eldon and Theresa Howell, and Jimmy and Beverly Weir; Aunt and Uncle Martha and Rodger Barrett; and Matt's family dogs Blue and Ellie Mae which were dachshund's.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday December 14, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Formoso Community Church in Formoso, Kansas with Pastor Daniel Waide officiating. Family would like everyone to dress casually. 

Private Family Inurnment will take place at a later date.
