Martha Marie (Melby) Martin

Martha Marie (Melby) Martin, was born August 12, 1934, at Scandia, Kansas, to Elmer Julius and Bernice (Hanson) Melby.  She died November 6, 2018, at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 84 years, 2 months, and 23 days.

Martha was baptized on November 11, 1934, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Norway, Kansas. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  Martha was a graduated from Scandia High School and beauty school.  She met Lorn R. Martin and they were married on February 23, 1955, at Amana Lutheran Church, Scandia, Kansas.  To this union three children were born.

With her husband, Lorn, serving in the United States Air Force, they lived in various places in the United States, England, and the Philippines.  Upon retirement they lived in West Virginia, before settling in Moore, Oklahoma. Martha lived there until the tornado destroyed her home.  Martha moved to Wichita, Kansas.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband - Lorn, her parents- Elmer and Bernice, and three brothers – Earl, Harvey, and Merle.

Children and spouses - Barbara Cisneros and husband Carlos, Lorn Allen Martin, and Kay Shaw and husband Jerry; grandchildren and spouses -Austin Cisneros and wife Karen, Travis Cisneros and wife Jennifer, Lyndon Cisneros and wife Tanya, Rosa Cisneros, Nathan Martin and wife Cynthia, Leslie Young and husband Chris, Brenna King, Amanda Armstrong and husband Phillip, Melanie Endsley and husband Kevin, great-grandchildren - Brian Young and wife Katy,   Bradley, Rowin, Morgan, Tucker, Matthew, Grant, Peyton, Macie, Alyson, Kennedy,              Harper, Lennon, and Finley.

Martha was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  Her family was very important and she made every effort to show that love in her actions, smiles and fun loving spirit. She traveled the world as a wife of a career Air Force man, the love of her life, Lorn R. Martin. She had many interests through the years such as gardening, sewing, cake decorating and antique shopping.  Martha was a strong person who met challenges head on with the many moves, living through a typhoon and surviving a tornado and the many small challenges that life brought her.  She often said she is a survivor. She is very much loved by family and friends who found joy in her presence and will be missed.

A celebration of life service for Martha Marie (Melby) Martin, will be Monday, November 12, 2018, at 3:00 p.m., at the Amana Lutheran Church, Scandia, Kansas, with Pastor Roger Bruns, officiating.  Mrs. Pat Grout played the music, and the congregational hymns were – “Amazing Grace,” “Blessed Assurance,” and “Children of the Heavenly Father.”  Casket bearers were – Austin Cisneros, Travis Cisneros, Lyndon Cisneros, Andrew Cisneros, Nathan Martin, and Brian Young.  Interment will be in the Amana Lutheran Church Cemetery, Scandia, Kansas.  Memorials can be given in Martha’s memory and a charity will be named later.  Visitation will be Sunday, November 11, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Melby Mortuary, Mankato, Kansas, and Monday, November 12, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at Amana Lutheran Church, Scandia, Kansas.  Online condolences can be left at www.melbymortuary.com .  Melby Mortuary, Mankato, Kansas, was in charge of arrangement
