Ella A. Page

Ella A. Page was the 6 ^th child born to Walter and Dora Ann (Wakefield) Lee on a small farm south of Booker, Texas, on July 30 ^th , 1923. She died, Friday, March 16, 2018, at her son’s home in Gadsden, Alabama. Ella graduated high school at Perryton, Texas, in 1940 and attended college to become a teacher. At the outbreak of WWII she was granted a War Time Teachers Certificate and began her career as a teacher.

She married James W. Page from Chivington, Colorado, on 20 December, 1947. In 1949, Ella, James and his two small children moved to a farm Southwest of Mankato, Kansas. In 1952, they settled on a farm a few miles south of the White Rock Creek (now Lovewell Lake).  It was here where she continued her career as a school teacher and homemaker. She was a member of the Montrose United Methodist Church until transferring to the Mankato Harmony United Methodist Church in 2010.

She lived her life in the service of others always placing God and her Church first. She always made family a top priority and spent many hours baking, cooking, making countless numbers  of quilts, baby blankets, clothes and patching jeans and help farming and raising cattle  through the years.

Ella is preceded in death by her parents, 5 brothers and 5 sisters, a son Jimmy and her husband of 59 years Jim.  She is survived by a brother Ray Lee and his wife Marilyn, Booker, TX. A daughter Joyce Kinsey and her husband Dick, San Antonio, TX,  2 sons Doug and his wife Carol Page, Webber, Kansas, Tom and his wife Jerolyn Page , Gadsden, Alabama; 10 grandchildren; numerous great grandkids;  great-great grandkids; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, teacher, grandmother, aunt, and friend to all who knew her.

Special thanks to Becky Blair and Cindy Buser who cared for her in her home in Mankato. Also to Kathleen, Lori and Steve at Pine Haven who always looked after her while she was there.  And a very special thanks to her daughter-in-laws Carol and Jerolyn Page. Carol was always there to take Ella to the grocery store, doctors’ appointments and Holiday dinners. And, Jerolyn, who provided the most compassionate and loving nursing care in her final days.

Memorial Services and a celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am on 27 March, 2018, at the Harmony United Methodist Church, Mankato, Kansas, with Pastors Gerry Sharp and Rod Rose.  Mrs. Pat Grout played the music, and Mr. Aden E. Joy, sang "Old Rugged Cross" and "Amazing Grace."  Inurnemnt was in the Webber Cemetery, Webber, Kansas, beside her husband, James. Service arrangements by Village Chapel, Gadsden, Alabama and Melby Mortuary, Mankato, Kansas. The family is asking for memorials to be made to The Mankato Harmony Methodist Church, Mankato, Kansas in lieu of flowers.
