Darrell Eugene Wagner

December 23, 1950 — August 29, 2019

Darrell E. Wagner, Mankato, Kansas, was born to Edward John and Loretta M. (Reinert) Wagner, on December 23, 1950, at Tipton, Kansas. He departed this life August 29, 2019, at the age of 68 years.

Darrell spent his entire life living his dream of being a custom cutter from May to October and being a farmer in the off-season.  He made the trek from Texas to North Dakota for 50 years, making life-long friends, customers, and counterparts along the way.  He was inducted into the U.S. Custom Harvesters Hall of Fame in 2015.  Caring for his customers was held in his highest regard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Loretta Wagner, and sister, Lucille Kohn.

Darrell is survived by his children: Jason and wife Chandra Wagner, of Mankato, Joshua and wife Denise Wagner, of Minneapolis, Kansas, Luke and wife Lynn Wagner, of Fredonia, Kansas, Moriah and husband Austin Gross, of Onida, South Dakota, and Alan and wife Jazmin Wagner, of Jetmore, Kansas; brothers and sister, Marvin and wife Pamela Wagner, of Mankato, Janet and husband Rex Letterman, of Chanute, Kansas, and Roger and wife Ali Wagner, of Burlington, Kansas; grandchildren – Brayde and  Kayle Wagner;  Dalton and  Mariah Park, Skyler and Jaycee Rietbrock, Ashley Rietbrock, Weston Wagner; Makinley and Carson Wagner; Augustus Gross; Alanya, Alan, Jr., Benaiah, KayLisa, and Zayna Wagner.

Darrell will be missed by many but he most definitely will not be forgotten.

Vigil service for Darrell E. Wagner will be (was) Monday, September 2, 2019, at 7:00 p.m. at St Theresa’s Catholic Church, Mankato. Funeral Mass will be (was) Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church. Interment will be (was) in St. Theresa’s Cemetery, Mankato. Visitation at the Melby Mortuary, Mankato, Kansas, will be (was) Sunday, September 1, 2019 from 1pm to 8 pm and Monday, September 2, 2019 from 1 pm to 4:30 pm.  Memorials may be made out to ”Joshua Wagner.”  Melby Mortuary, Mankato, was in charge of arrangements.
