Daniel Oren Garman

April 3, 1943 — January 28, 2019

Daniel O. Garman, the fourth child of Robert E. and Helen (Miller) Garman, was born April 3, 1943 in their home in Harrison Township. He departed this life on Monday, January 28, 2019 at the Ellsworth County Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth, KS at the age of 75.

Danny spent all his life in the Burr Oak community until the last 5 years of which he moved to the Sylvan Grove area with family. He completed through the 8 th grade at Oak Creek Country School and finished his education at Burr Oak High School with the Class of 1961. Basketball,  football and track were highlights of his high school days.

He was a member of the United States Army National Guard, serving from 1964 to 1969. During service in the guards, he also worked as a custom harvester and farmed and ranched on the family farm with his father. After his father's departing, he kept the family farm operating. Later in life while cash renting the farm, he inquired a new love of swathing alfalfa while working for Terry and Janice McCutcheon until he retired at the age of 70.

Danny was united in marriage with Lonzy Hanson on June 16, 1968 in Mankato, KS. To this union, two children were born: Danyelle Deanne and Brock Edwin. In his life he was a farmer, stockman and hired hand for fifty years in the Burr Oak community.  If you knew him as “Rowdy”, you were called a friend and he was willing to be there for anything, help or fun. His enjoyments of life, besides the farm, were bowling, trap shooting and working cattle as a group with neighbors, helping each other work their herd.

He will be greatly missed by daughter, Danyelle (Cody) Murray of Sylvan Grove and son Brock (Julie) Garman of Omaha, NE; 5 grandchildren; Brandon Broeckelman, Manhattan; Bianca (Nick) Pounds, Sylvan Grove; Bayleigh Broeckelman, Sylvan Grove; Claire and Stella Garman, Omaha, NE, his sisters; Virginia Pettit, Raytown, MO, Sandra (John) Adams, Saint Paul, MN and sister-in-law Hazel Garman, Guide Rock, NE; and a host of many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Garman will be Thursday, January 31, 2019, at 11:00 a.m., at the Shaffer Cemetery, in Harrison Township, Jewell County, Kansas, with Pastor Dennis Beckmann officiating.  Military honors will be given by Kansas Army National Guard Honor Guard, and American Legion Post No. 263, Burr Oak, Kansas.  Interment will follow in the cemetery.  Visitation will be Wednesday, January 30, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Melby Mortuary, Mankato, Kansas.  The family suggests memorials to be given and charities will be named at a later date.  Online condolences can be left at www.melbymortuary.com .  Melby Mortuary, Manakto, Kansas, was in charge of service arrangements.
