Bonnie B. Newell

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Bonnie Newell, our loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and friend to all whose lives she touched, on February 10, 2022.  She left her earthly life while sleeping peacefully at the Jewell County Hospital ISB in Mankato, Kansas.  She was in her 88 ^th year.

Bonnie was born on May 17, 1933 in Glen Elder, Kansas to Dwight and Ethel (Margreiter) Timbers.  She graduated from Glen Elder High School and attended Brown Mackie College in Salina, Ks.  On November 30, 1952, Bonnie was united in marriage to Bob G. Newell, and together they had 5 children, Andra, Lynn, Teri, Shawn, and Lance.  Bonnie and Bob celebrated 50 years of marriage prior to Bob’s passing in 2003.

Bonnie lived a full life as a wonderful and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.  She was a highly skilled cook and baker who cherished preparing and sharing incredible meals with her family and friends.  Bonnie put her heart and soul into preparing her famous five-course (or more) meals for those she loved.  Holidays at “Grandma Bonnie’s” were especially exciting for her grandchildren who opened many thoughtful presents and devoured trays of homemade candies and desserts.  She adored her sisters and spent many hours swapping recipes and chatting with them on the phone.  She was also best of friends with her big brother, Roy and wife, Dot.  Throughout her life, she was faithfully committed to making and serving bountiful meals every harvest season.  Bonnie loved to travel with her family and friends, and especially cherished the summer vacations to the Ozarks with her children and grandchildren.   Spending time with her family brought her immense pride and joy.  She was a selfless and loyal mother and grandmother who supported her children and grandchildren in their many activities and hobbies.  Bonnie enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and having them over for coffee.  She was an active member of the Junior Clio Club for 50 years, and a member of the Harmony Methodist Church.  Bonnie will always be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother and whose greatest passion was her family.

Bonnie is survived by her children, Andra (Rodney) Hancock, Salina; Lynn Shamburg, Beloit; Teri File, Salina; Lance Newell, Wichita; Susan Newell, Mankato; 15 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; sisters Bernice Lilly, Bernita Eberle, Berta (Dan) Moss, and sister-in-law Dixie Stephens.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Bob; son, Shawn; son-in-law, Terry Shamburg; grandson, Cole Hancock; Eric Waddell; brother and wife, Roy and Dot Timbers; brother-in-laws, George Stephens, Bill Eberle, and Keith Lilly.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 15 ^th at 11:00am at Harmony United Methodist Church, Mankato.  Burial will be in Athens Cemetery.
