F. Louise Motes

Florence Louise (Bowles) Motes was born March 10, 1913, at Jewell, Kansas, to George and Jessie (Durant) Bowles, and died Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at the Mitchell County Hospital Health Systems Resident Care Center, Beloit, Kansas, at the age of 97 years, and 5 months.

She grew up on a farm south-west of Jewell, and graduated from Jewell High School. She met and married Reed V. Motes on May 3, 1930, at Minneapolis, Kansas. They made their home at Scottsville, Kansas, where their daughter, Florence was born. The family moved to the farm north of Mankato, and lived and farmed that farm since then. Louise enjoyed shopping, farming, watching bird and going to Beloit on Fridays’ to get her hair fixed.

Louise was active in the Rebecca Lodge, avid gardener, and was a member of the Harmony United Methodist Church, Mankato, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Reed, April 15, 1996; her daughter - Florence Beck; two grandsons – Jack Beck and Edward Beck; and sister - Maureen Hugenot.

Louise is survived by her son-in-law, Clarence Beck, Mankato, Kansas; granddaughter – Sherry and husband, Mike Leaf, of Wellington, Kansas; four great-grandchildren – Brent and wife, Collette Beck of Mankato, Kansas, Kristene and husband, Scott Boyles of Superior, Nebraska, Rebecca Leaf and Katie Leaf, both of Wichita, Kansas; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a host of friends and other relatives.

A celebration of life service for F. Louise Motes, will be (was) held Saturday, August 14, 2010, at 10:00 a.m., at the Melby Mortuary Chapel, Mankato, Kansas, with Pastor Mike Leaf officiating. Casket bearers were: Rdney Payne, Scott Boyles, Brett rn, Curtis Reames, Ron Simon, and Lloyd Johnson, Sr. Interment followed in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Mankato, Kansas. The family suggests memorials to be given to the donors’ favorite charity or to Flossie Beck Memorial Scholarship fund, at the Rock Hills High School, Mankato, Kansas.
