Mike S. Modlin

Mike Steven Modlin was born November 19, 1953, to Don and Mary (Morton) Modlin, at Smith Center, Kansas, and died Saturday, January 23, 2010, at his home in Burr Oak, Kansas, at the age of 56 years, 2 months, and 4 days.

After graduating from Burr Oak High School, he attended Fort Hays on a football Scholarship. Mike transferred to Beloit Vocational Technical School to complete his education after a year at Hays.

His occupation was a farmer – stockman. Mike spent many years as a school bus driver, high school girls’ basketball coach, Jr. High football and basketball coach. Mike was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, Burr Oak, Kansas.

Mike was married to the late Gwen Huck in 1981, whom preceded him in death in 1997. He is survived by his children- Tanya Lou of Wichita, Kansas, Cole Dean (Marine Corp), and Chad Steven of the home; parents- Don and Mary Modlin of Burr Oak, Kansas; sisters- Jerry and husband, Jim Harding of Manhattan, Kansas, and Sylvia and husband, Mark Musser of Frontenac, Kansas; and brother- Charlie and wife, Lois Modlin of Scott City, Kansas; a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life service was held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 30, 2010, at the Rock Hills High School Gymnasium, Mankato, Kansas, with Pastor Dan Dempsey officiating. Mrs. Rosalie Menhusen was the pianist. Casket bearers were: Lynn Scarrow, Quentin Underwood, Gary Garman, Curtis Ernst, Ralph Stepp, and Robert (Bob) Johnson. Interment was in the Burr Oak Cemetery, Burr Oak, Kansas. The family suggests memorials to the United Methodist Church, Burr Oak, Kansas, in care of the Melby Mortuary, P O Box 384, Mankato, Kansas 66956.
