Sarah Elizabeth Mohler

Sarah Elizabeth Mohler was born on June 21, 1925, in Huron, Tennessee, to Ambrose and Flossie (Stewart) Maness, and died August 6, 2009, at the Republic County Hospital, Belleville, Kansas, at the age of 84 years, 1 month, and 15 days. She grew up on the family farm. After attending Business College in Knoxville, Tennessee, she went to work in the Chaplain's office at the Pentagon during World War II. She met her husband, LeRoy Edward Mohler, while he was stationed in Fort Myers, Virginia. They were married on September 10, 1946, in Washington D.C. They moved to a farm outside of Burr Oak, Kansas, where their two daughters - Barbara Elizabeth Mohler-Spear and Carol Ellen Wakefield were born. In 1958, they moved to Mankato, Kansas.

Elizabeth was a homemaker and seamstress, sewing clothes for her family and many people in the community. She made her daughters' and granddaughters' wedding dresses. She assisted with the family business by keeping the books for the Sinclair Service Station. She loved playing games and cards with family and friends. Elizabeth enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She was a member of the Mankato Christian Church and Christian Gleaners.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy Mohler; her mother, Flossie Maness; father, Ambrose Maness; sister, Willie Lee McAdams; brother-in-law, Gale McAdams; and son-in-law, William Spear.

Survivors include her daughters, Barbara Mohler-Spear of Lindsborg, Kansas, and Carol and husband, Raymond Wakefield of Mankato, Kansas; three grandchildren, Kathleen Rytych of Minneapolis, Kansas, Germaine and husband Richard Hall of Andover, Kansas, and James and wife, Amanda Rytych of Jacksonville, North Carolina; four great-grandchildren, Tyler and Karlee Rytych and Delanie and Maddie Hall; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life service for Elizabeth Mohler was held Monday, August 10, 2009, at 10:30 a.m., at the Mankato Christian Church, with Pastor Thaddeus Hinkle officiating. Music was provided by Ruth Clegg organist, and Pastor Thaddeus Hinkle, vocalist. Casket bearers were: James McAdams, Delvin Hanson, Lyndell Hanson, Dennis Hanson, Gary Garman, and Jeffrey Caylor. Interment was in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Mankato, Kansas. The family requests memorials to be made to the Mankato Christian Church or the Jewell County Hospital Long-term Care Unit both of Mankato, Kansas. Melby Mortuary, Mankato, Kansas, was in charge of arrangements.
