Maxine K Walker

Maxine (Walker) Adelstone Switzer was born October 16, 1939, to Edwin and Irene (Vanderplas) Walker in Abilene, Kansas. She passed away in Mankato, Kansas on July 14, 2016, at the Jewell County Hospital, Mankato, Kansas.

Maxine graduated from Westmoreland High School in 1958. Her professional careers included nursing, photography, and working as a bridal consultant and buyer for a major department store chain. Maxine founded and managed the Mankato Mission Thrift Store, which benefited numerous churches and charities around North Central Kansas.

She married Leon Adelstone in 1960. To this union two children, Lori and Rodney were born. She married Robert Switzer of Mankato, Kansas on August 30, 1986.

Maxine participated in many Bible studies, taught Sunday School, and led Vacation Bible School arts and crafts. She served her family, church and community and poured her heart into people's lives until the very end of her life. Her deepest desire was for people to love and serve Christ.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents and her grandson Lee Adelstone. She leaves behind her husband, Bob, her daughter Lori (Adelstone) and husband, Jeff Bradford of Woodstock, Ga, her son, Rod and wife, Charlene Adelstone of Myrtle Beach, SC, grandchildren Katelin and husband, Branden, Bethany, Dylan, Hayley, Madeline, great grandchildren, Aubrey and Bentley, and sister Lesley and husband, Jim Hunter of Manhattan, KS.

Celebration of life services for Maxine K. Switzer will be at 4:00 p.m., Monday, July 18,2016, at the Mankato Community Center, Mankato, Kansas, with Pastor Todd Bradrick officiating. Mrs. Jan Thornton will be the organist, and a trio of Mrs. Pat Zadina, Mrs. Vicki Wagner, and Apryl Badger will sing “Old Rugged Cross” and “Amazing Grace.” Casket bearers will be: Rodney Adelstone, Jerry Richter, Michael Zadina, Michael Horn, Matthew Badger, and Dale Park. Interment and graveside services will be at Fairview Cemetery, Webber -Lovewell, Kansas. Visitation will be held at Melby Mortuary, Mankato, Kansas, on Sunday, July 17, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Mankato Community Center on Monday, July 18 from 2:00-4:00. Her favorite charities are First Baptist Church Mankato and Julie Alexander, a missionary with BMFP - Around the World. Online condolences can be left at www.melbymortuary.com. Melby Mortuary, 402 N.
