Betty Ann (Nelsen) Andreasen

November 15, 1934 — March 26, 2016

Betty Ann (Nelsen) Andreasen, of Mankato, Kansas, was born November 15, 1934, in Harrison Township, Jewell County, Kansas, to Hans Andrew and Mildred Ethel (Fringer) Nelsen, and went to her heavenly home on March 26, 2016, at the Jewell County Hospital, Mankato, Kansas, at the age of 81 years, 4 months, and 11 days.

As a small child, Betty and her family moved to Bosler, Wyoming, in 1937, where Betty started school. They left Wyoming in 1944, and moved to Severance, Colorado, before moving to Burr Oak, Kansas, to farm. Betty attended school in the Burr Oak Public Schools, and graduated from Burr Oak High School.

She married Glenn Eugene Andreasen, on August 3, 1952, at Centennial Lutheran Church, Superior, Nebraska. To this union two sons were born – Rick and Jim.

While Glenn was serving in the United States Army in Korea and Japan, Betty worked and lived in an upstairs apartment in downtown Superior, Nebraska. Glenn returned from his service, and worked at the cement plant, and took up farming again. They moved to Webber, where they farmed, before moving towards Hardy, Nebraska, and expanded the farming with custom farm work. Betty started working in Mankato, at the Jewell County Extension Office as a secretary.

Glenn and Betty built a house in Mankato, and moved into their home in 1994. Glenn continued custom bailing.

Over the years, Betty was active in Webber Extension Club, cooked at the Webber School, sang with the Farmettes, worked for Nebraska County Council, and the Mankato Library Board. She worked for 25 years for the Jewell County Extension Council and office. Besides putting in many hours with the local 4-H and the fair, she was a 4-H Fair Judge for many counties. Betty’s passions include: sewing, reading, and family. She enjoyed cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren, and with their activities.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glenn, on June 23, 2013; and a grandson – Corbin Andreasen. She is survived by her two sons – Rick and wife, Carol Andreasen, and Jim and wife, Deb Andreasen all of Superior, Nebraska; 6 grandchildren – Rory Andreasen, Sarah Andreasen McCabe, Jennifer Simpkins, Josh Kussman, Justine Kussman, and Jason Kussman; 16 great-grandchildren; brother – Donald and wife, Ruth Nelsen of Hastings, Nebraska; two sisters – Marjorie Hulbert of Mankato, Kansas, and Myrtle Roe of Glen Elder, Kansas; and a host of other relatives and friends.
