Dona Dean Beam

Dona Dean Ost-Beam, 87 years of age passed away Monday June 1, 2015 at Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit. Dona was born October 20th, 1927 to Darus and Lily (Colson) Henningsen at their family home north of Ionia in Jewell County, Kansas.

She attended country grade school and graduated from Ionia High School in 1946. On May 31st, 1946, she married her high school sweetheart Robert (Bob) Lee Ost. To this union three sons were born, Kendall Lee, Kirk Douglas and Kim William. Together they farmed and raised livestock.
Dona loved the farm life, helping Bob and the boys wherever she was needed, and added beauty to the farm with her flowers. Dona enjoyed quilting and made many quilts and lap robes for her family, that are still treasured memories of her.

On April 4th, 1987 she married Donald E. Beam becoming a second mother to his four grown children. Don and Dona enjoyed going to dances, playing cards and traveling. They took several bus tours and had visited all fifty states. Dona enjoyed going to the children’s and grandkids activities and birthday parties.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Darus and Lily Henningsen, husband Robert L. Ost, son Kirk D. Ost, sister Marjorie J. Craig, Brother in-laws: James Craig, Edgar Brinkworth, Darrell Ost, sister in-law Virginia Henningsen, and son-in-law Chris Wolters.

Left to cherish her memory are her family, husband- Donald E. Beam of the home, children-Kendall and wife Melinda Ost, Kim and wife Wendy Ost, Rebecca Ost, Sheila and husband Gary Caspers, Cynthia Poland, Brenda Wolter, Brian and wife Raeleene Beam. Brother-Coburn D. Henningsen, sister in-laws-Sharon Brinkworth, Joan Ost, Beth Adamson, Betty Fogo and brother in-law-Harold and wife Thelma Beam. Grandchildren-Marcia Ost, Brent Ost, Heather Wilbur, Brice Ost, Renae Fuller, Eric Ost, Chelsea Dunn, Brooke Lundblad, Megan Schmidt, Savannah Poland, Matthew Caspers, Jill Caspers, Jake Jones, Blake Wilcox, James Beam, Aaron Beam. Great Grandchildren-Danny, Emily, Rylee, Aubree, Ross, Luke, Gabrielle, Kenvie, Kyler, Skylar, Traeton, Mackenzi; along with many other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life service for Dona D. Ost Beam will be (was) Thursday, June 4, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at the Harmony United Methodist Church, Mankato, Kansas, with Pastor Gerry Sharp officiating. Organist will be (was) Mrs. Pat Grout, and the congregational hymns will be (were): “Old Rugged Cross,” “How Great Thou Art,” and “In The Garden.” Casket bearers will be (were): Eric Ost, Danny Fuller, James Beam, Aaron Beam, Jake Jones, Blake Wilcox, Matthew Caspers, and Brice Ost. Honorary casket bearers will be (were): Don Walker, Ray Smith, Brad Ost, Chris Welchel, Joan Dean, and Neva Shoemaker. Interment will be (was) in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Mankato, Kansas, beside her husband, Bob. The family suggests memorials to Harmony United Methodist Church, or donor’s choice.
