Vera A. Frost

August 1, 1921 — May 4, 2015

Vera Agusta Phillips Frost, Esbon, Kansas, fourth child of John Harold and Sarah Adilla (Fenner) Phillips, was born on a farm in the Westbranch community south of Esbon on August 1, 1921. She passed away at the Jewell County Hospital, Mankato, Kansas, on May 4, 2015, at the age of 93 years, 8 months and 3 days.

Vera attended Westbranch Country School and graduated from Esbon High School in 1939. She was united in marriage on August 1, 1939, to Paul Abraham Frost. They lived on a farm near Esbon. Two children, Vyonda and John, blessed their home. Paul and Vera were privileged to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in August of 1989. After the death of her husband Paul in 1990, Vera moved into Esbon.

Vera was preceded in death by - her parents; husband; daughter, Vyonda Welch; sisters, Pauline Phillips and Mable Marihugh; and brother, Joseph Chester Phillips.

She is survived by: her son, John (Lila) Frost; son-in-law, Larry Welch; grandchildren, Michelle (Ken) Crocker, Jeffrey Welch, Michael Welch, Shawn Frost, Stacy (Mike) Stauffer, and Sheila (Shannon) White; great-grandchildren, Kyle Baker, Megan Frost, Paul Frost, Grant White, Carter White, Levi White, Colin White, Makenna Stauffer, and Hunter Stauffer; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Vera was baptized in the Evangelical United Brethren Church on April 13, 1952, and later became a member of the Esbon United Methodist Church. Vera lived her entire life in the Esbon community. She was a member of the Happy Hour Club and United Methodist Ladies Aide. She served as president of the Ladies Aide for numerous years.

Vera loved to play cards, whether it be with family, her friends at the Esbon Senior Center, or the card parties at the Esbon Café. Vera took great pride in her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed being with the grandchildren and did her share of babysitting when called upon. In her later years, she enjoyed the grandchildren visiting her. She always kept cookies and peanuts on hand for these visits.

Funeral services for Vera A. (Phillips) Frost were held Saturday, May 9, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. from the Esbon United Methodist Church, Esbon, Kansas, with Pastor Gerry Sharp officiating. Music was provided by Wanda Thummel, organist, and Neal and Karen Herndon, vocalists. Pall bearers were: Shawn Frost, Mike Stauffer, Shannon White, Ken Crocker, Kenny Marihugh, and Scott Marihugh. Interment was in the Esbon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Esbon United Methodist Church. Melby Mortuary, Mankato, Kansas was in charge of arrangements.
