Eugene Leeroy Morris

Eugene LeeRoy “Mo” Morris, son of Cleo and Twila (Figgins) Morris, was born May 17, 1962, in Kansas City, Missouri. Mo went to be with the Lord December 29,2008, at University Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 46 years, 7 months and 12 days.

He graduated in 1980 from Burr Oak High School. Mo enjoyed playing football, basketball, and playing baseball in the summer. He enjoyed helping his dad at the Morris Garage and mowing cemeteries with his family. Mo loved spending time with his friends, working on demolition cars, camping, skiing, watching football games, and watching Nascar races on Sunday afternoon.

He had good times at the Kansas City Chiefs game with family and friends, at the Nascar races at the Kansas Motor Speedway and the Texas Motor Speedway, and watching his favorite driver Jimmy Johnson, and watching his nephews race at T.M.S. Mo had another favorite pastime, sitting around open fires shooting the breeze with many of his friends.

He was blessed with a beautiful daughter, Stacy, and a granddaughter, Tavyn, which he was able to visit with before his death. Tavyn and PaPa Mo loved playing and spending time together. Although distance was between he and his daughter and grandchild, there was a special place in his heart for them and he loved them both deeply.

Mo was preceded in death by his father Cleo Morris in 2001.

Mo is survived by his mother Twila Morris of Burr Oak, Kansas; daughter Stacy Hughes and granddaughter Tavyn Mayes, of Springtown, Texas; former wife Sharon Hughes of Springtown, Texas; sister Kathy and husband Tim Robinson, of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; brother Vernon and wife Kay Morris of Salina, Kansas; nephews, Nick, Trey, and Travis Robinson, Mt. Pleasant, Texas, Tyler Morris, Salina, Kansas, Jason and Adam Barkley, Kansas City, Missouri; niece, Sheleen Gilbert, Salina, Kansas; and great-nephew, Ethan Mullen, Salina, Kansas.

A celebration of life service for Eugene LeeRoy “Mo” Morris, were held Saturday, January 3, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at the Christian Church, Burr Oak, Kansas, with Pastor Richard Cox officiating. Casket bearers were: Mike Gewecke, Darin Barnes, Danny Barnes, Aaron Christensen, Robert Rosenquist, and Bruce Hafer. Honorary casket bearers were: Ron Zalman, Gary Figgins, Rod Zeigler, and Gary Kum. Interment was in the Burr Oak Cemetery, Burr Oak, Kansas. Memorials may be made to the Burr Oak Cemetery or the family. Melby Mortuary, Mankato, Kansas, was in charge of arrangements.
