Sophie Ann Anderson

Sophie Ann Anderson of Formoso, Kansas, was born July 11, 1942, to James and Genevieve (Saleem) Hashberger, in Fall River, Massachusetts, and died February 19, 2015, at the Mitchell County Hospital, Beloit, Kansas, at the age of 72 years, 7 months, and 8 days.

Sophie attended school and the Common Wealth Community College in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She was studying nursing. She married Rickey Anderson on October 26, 1985 at Virginia Beach, Virginia. They have eight children in this combine family. Sophie loved her family and everything that it took to make a family.

When not with the family she enjoyed gardening, and fishing.

Sophie was preceded in death by her parents, James and Genny Hashberger; brother – Bobby Hashberger; son – Chance Ponder; and two grandsons – Justin Ponder and Johnethy Anderson Bumpas.

She leaves to mourn: her husband – Rickey Anderson of the home; son- Ollen Ponder, Jr. of Jackson, Mississippi; three daughters - Tracy and husband, Greg Burkett of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Stacy and husband, Maher Awad of Terry Town, Louisiana, and Regina Chandler of Harvey, Louisiana; stepchildren – Rick and wife, Jessica Baker of Formoso, Kansas, Chester and wife, Susan Baker of Duncan, Oklahoma, and Bettsy Bumpas of Moore, Oklahoma; 15 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; sister – Eileen and husband, Ray Belcanger of Florida; and brother – Joe and wife, Bonnie Hashberger of Virginia.

A celebration of life service will be (was) Monday, February 23, 2015, at 2:00 pm at Formoso Community Church, Formoso, Kansas, with Pastor Gene Little officiating. Interment will follow in the Balch Cemetery, Formoso, Kansas. The family suggests memorials towards a marker for the grave. Visitation will be (was) Sunday, February 22, 2015, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends Sunday, March 22, 2015, at the Melby Mortuary, Mankato, Kansas, from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Condolences may be left at www.melbymortuary.com.
