Wanda Howard

Wanda Howard was born on December 14, 1933, in Garden City, Kansas, and passed away on November 14, 2014, at the Jewell County Hospital, Mankato, Kansas, at the age of 80 years and 11 months.

At the age of 3, she moved with her parents to Beloit, Kansas area.

She married Forrest Howard on June 15, 1952 and moved to Burr Oak where she spent the rest of her life. To his union four children were born.

Wanda was a member of the Christian Church and a member of several organizations in Burr Oak. She wrote news for the Jewell County Record for nearly 25 years, sold Avon for 47 years. Wanda's last Avon order scheduled to be in on Wednesday. She worked as a C.N.A. at the Jewell County Hospital for 18 years.

Her family was her greatest joy. She loved the times they could all be together.

Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest, of nearly 40 years, in 1992, her parents, Clifford and Thelma (Williams) McCune and son, Phillip Howard in 2007.

She leaves to mourn her passing by two sons - Brian and wife Jeanette Howard of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Rodney and wife, Barb of Burr Oak, Kansas; a daughter - Denise and husband, Bruce Stafford of Burr Oak, Kansas; daughter-in-law - Trela Howard of Andover, Kansas; five grandchildren - Wesley and wife, Raeann Howard of Augusta, Kansas, Stefanie Howard of Mountain View, Arkansas, Melinda Howard, of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Kevin and wife, Jamie Howard of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Cori Gunn of Burr Oak, Kansas; two great grandsons - Cale Cowart and Archer Davis; 2 step-great-grandchildren - Zane Hennessey and Raven Perry: one brother - Robert and wife, Janice McCune of Mankato, Kansas; and a host of nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

A celebration life service will be Monday, November 17, 2014, at 10:30 a.m., at the Christian Church, Burr Oak, Kansas, with Richard Cox officiating. Music for the service was Wanda Frasier, pianist, Kenny Rhea, soloist, and the solos will be "One Day At a Time," and "How Great Thou Art. The congregation will sing "God Be With You." Casket bearers will be Gary Turner, Clifford Barnes, Douglas Frasier, Robert "Bob" Johnson, COdy Volker, and Larry Gillett. Interment will be in the Burr Oak Cemetery, Burr Oak, Kansas. The family suggests memorial be given to the Christian Church, Burr Oak, in care of the funeral Home. Online condolences can be left at www.melbymortuary.com.
