Milo W. Matousek, 92, of Mankato, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2013, at Mankato Long Term Care. He was born on March 26, 1921 to John and Hattie (Hajny) Matousek on the family farm.
He attended Prairie Hill School through the 8th grade and later graduated from Esbon High School in 1939. He helped his father with the farm before joining the United States Air Corps. After basic training he served from October 16, 1942 to October 14, 1945 obtaining the rank of Staff Sargent. Milo was stationed in England and France with the 547th Bombardment Squadron. Milo returned to the United States in 1945 arriving at New York Harbor. He returned home to the family farm and worked the farm with his father. He later began a farming operation of his own.
Milo met Doris Doud and they were united in marriage on July 20, 1947. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary this year.
He was a member of the American Legion in Esbon, KS for 69 years, and a lifetime member of the VFW in Mankato, KS. Milo enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents; niece, Diane Dethloff; and brother-in-law, Arden Ost.

Survivors include his wife Doris; sister, Marcella Ost; nephew, Lavon and his wife Judy; and numerous great nieces and nephews and family members.
Funeral Services for Milo Matousek will be Monday, October 21, 2013, at 2:00 p.m., at the Melby Mortuary Chapel, Mankato, Kansas, with Pastor Thaddeus Hinkley officiating. Soloist was Natalie Post. Casket Bearers were Lavon Ost, Kevin Ost, Doug Benoit, Mark Post, Jay Carlgen, and Kraig Cowles. Military honors were presented by McConnell Air Force Base Honor Guard, McConell Air Force Base, Kansas, and interment was in the Esbon Cemetery, Esbon, Kansas. The family suggests memorial to American Cancer Association or the Jewell County Hospital.

There will be a visitation from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, October 20, 2013, at the Melby Mortuary, Mankato, Kansas.
