Harvey G. Melby, 77
years of age, of Belleville, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2013 at
Republic County Hospital in Belleville. He was born on December 30, 1935 near
Scandia to Elmer and Bernice (Hanson) Melby. Harvey graduated from Scandia High
School in 1953. He married Betty Thompson on January 8, 1956 in the Amana
Lutheran Church in Scandia. Harvey was a farmer/stockman all of his life and
sold Pioneer Seed for 19 years. While in high school, he farmed the Cowle farm
which enabled him to buy a Buick as a high school senior. Harvey enjoyed all of
his family including his grandkids, nieces, and nephews. He was an active
member of the Amana Lutheran Church in Scandia where he served various
positions for many years.
Harvey is survived by
his wife, Betty; son, Steven Melby and wife Terri of Mankato; daughter, Lydia
Steinlage and husband Paul of Corning; 6 grandchildren, Bethany Cass and
husband Clay of Laramie, Wyoming, Ericka Melby of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Aaron
Melby of Manhattan, Alex, Theo, and Nate Steinlage, all of Corning; sister,
Martha Martin of Wichita; sister-in-law, Genevieve Melby of Scandia; several
nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and relatives. He was preceded in
death by his parents; 2 brothers, Merle and Earl; and a brother-in-law, Lorn
Martin.
Funeral Services will
be held at 10:30 AM Monday, September 9, 2013 in the Amana Lutheran Church in
Scandia with Pastor Delvin Strecker officiating. Visitation will be held from 1
to 8 PM Sunday, September 8, 2013 with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8
PM in the Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home in Belleville. Interment will be in the
Riverview Cemetery in Scandia. Memorials are suggested to the church and the
Republic County Hospital in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be left
