Sheila Ann Shoemaker

Sheila A. Shoemaker was born July 25, 1943, in Wichita, Kansas, to George and Iva (Kindler) McCary, and died Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at the Jewell County Hospital, Mankato, Kansas, after a battle with cancer, at the age of 70 years, 1 month and 2 days.
Sheila was educated in the Esbon School. She was married to Robert “Bob” Shoemaker on February 7, 1960, at the Mankato Christian Church. To this union three children were born – Cheri, Dennis, and Travis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, on March 6, 1996.
She met Matthew L. Pierce, and they became very close friends and companions. They enjoyed traveling together on motorcycle rides. Sheila enjoyed animals of all kinds and had a big heart when abandoned dogs or cats would arrive at her doorstep. She loved to dance, listen to country music, and Matt singing karaoke. Family and friends were very important to Sheila, as all you know. If you met Sheila one time, you would never forget her. Her kindness to strangers and friends was seen by everyone who knew her. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren's school activities and sporting events. She was making plans for the birth of her first great-grandchild, who will arrive into this world in December.
Sheila leaves to mourn her , her loving companion - Matthew Pierce of the home; daughter – Cheri and husband, Arlyn Hoppenstedt of Ulysses, Kansas; two sons – Dennis and wife, Melinda Shoemaker of Baldwin City, Kansas, and Travis and wife, Jackie Shoemaker of Overland Park, Kansas; six grandchildren; her sister – Karen Young of Halstead, Kansas; half-sisters – Judy and husband, Bud Studdard of Jewell, Kansas, and Barbie and husband, Eric Martin of Farmersville, Texas; and half-brother – Eldon “Butch” and wife, Monica Buster of Deshler, Nebraska; step-father – Eldon Dean Buster of Mankato, Kansas; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life service for Sheila A. Shoemaker was held, Saturday, August 31, 2013, at 2:00 pm at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mankato, Kansas, with Pastor Dennis Beckmann. Pianist was Mrs. Kristi Badger, and the congregation sang two hymns – “What A Friend We Have in Jesus" and “Just A Closer Walk With Thee”. The songs were also played are “When I Get Where I’m Going” by Brad Paisley and Dolly Parton, and “Sissy’s Song” By Alan Jackson. Casket Bearers were: Lance Geyer, Dusty Humphreys, Bryce Shoemanker, Colton Shoemaker, Evan Reiter, and Jacob Hoselton. Interment was beside Robert “Bob” Shoemaker in the Burr Oak Cemetery, Burr Oak, Kansas. Visitation was Friday, August 30, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and the family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Mortuary. The family suggests memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or American Cancer Society in care of the Melby Mortuary, P O Box 384, Mankato, Kansas 66956.
