Marjorie Louise Tremblay

March 30, 1930 — July 17, 2013

Marjorie Louise (May) Tremblay passed away at the Salina Regional Health Center on Wednesday, July 17, 2013, following a brief illness. She was 83 years old. Marjorie was born on March 30, 1930, in Boston, Massachusetts to Alexander and Flora (Webber) May and grew up in the Jamaica Plain suburb. Upon high school graduation, she took a secretarial job with the Houghton-Mifflin publishing company in Boston where she worked for several years.

Marjorie married Ralph Gerard Tremblay on January 20, 1953, in Annapolis, MD. They were married for 49 years and had 6 children. They started their life together in Boston before moving to Middleborough, Massachusetts where Marge stayed busy as a homemaker, Girl Scout leader and 4-H leader. She was involved with church choir and many other activities. From Middleborough, the family moved to Corbin, Kentucky, Holdrege, Nebraska, and finally to Formoso, Kansas, where Marge lived for over 30 years.

As her children got older, Marge re-entered the workforce. She worked briefly as an assistant librarian in the Holdrege Library before returning to secretarial work. She was employed by the Pawnee Community Mental Health center until she retired in the late 1990’s.

Marge enjoyed being active in her community and church. She had many hobbies and activities including reading, sewing, knitting, crocheting and traveling. Her homemade jam was always in demand and she delivered Meals on Wheels for several years. Marge was active in the local bowling league and participated in many local, state, and national tournaments. She was an avid Boston Celtics and Red Sox fan.

Marge took many vacations with family around the United States and in the past few years, had the opportunity to do a little world traveling as well. In 2008, she explored Egypt with her friend, Laverna. In June 2013, Marge travelled to Scotland with her daughters to see where her father grew up and to meet her cousins and other family. This was a trip she had always thought about and was thrilled to actually have seen it realized.

Marjorie is survived by her children, Jeffrey (Susan) of Crete, Nebraska; Heather (David) Marolf of Manchester, Iowa; Bonnie (Hunter) Chartier of Marinette, Wisconsin; Duncan of Formoso, Kansas; and Murdoch of Park City, Kansas; 6 grandchildren, Gerard, Christopher, Kimberly, Evelyn, Ethan and Ellen; 6 great-grandchildren, Alexzandra, Abagail, Dominick, Cierra, Savannah, and Nathaniel; her brothers Robert (Patricia) May, of Newburyport, MA and Richard (Barbara) May of Cottonwood, AZ along with many family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph G. Tremblay, a son, Bruce, and her parents, Flora and Alexander May. Marjorie will be deeply missed, but remembered with great love and affection.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 28, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mankato, Kansas. Interment will take place at a future date at the Rock Village Cemetery in Middleborough, Massachusetts where she will rest with her husband and son.
