Glenn Eugene Andreasen

January 8, 1932 — June 23, 2013

Glenn Eugene Andreasen was born to Ernest and Mabel (Peterson) Andreasen, at home, on January 8, 1932, and died Sunday, June 23, 2013, at the Jewell County Hospital, Mankato, Kansas, at the age of 81 years, 5 months, and 15 days.

He started to school at Nora, Nebraska, and graduated from Superior High School. He married Betty Nelsen on August 3, 1952, at the Centennial Lutheran Church in Superior. To this union two sons were born – Rick Eugene and Jim Dean. Glenn served in the United States Army in Korea and Japan, and worked to the rank of Staff Sergeant. After the service, Glenn went back to farming near Cadams, Nebraska. He was also employed by Pete Nielsen Gas Station. Glenn also worked at the Ideal Cement Plant at Superior. After the cement plant, Glenn and Betty moved to a farm near Webber and farmed for about 10 years. They moved closer to Glenn’s parent’s farm at Hardy for four years, before moving closer to Mankato. Glenn and Betty camped in a fifth wheel camper, at the site of their future home, for two years as they built in Mankato.

Glenn farmed and did custom farm work for area farmers, but his hobby was an antique tractor and tractor pulls. He won several trophies over the years, and many were from the Jewell County Historical Society Thrashing Bee.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother - Don Andreasen; and great-grandson - Corbin Nathaniel.

Glenn is survived by his wife - Betty Andreasen of the home; two sons – Rick and wife, Carol Andreasen of Superior, Nebraska and Jim and wife Deb Andreasen of Webber, Kansas;, grandchildren - Roy and wife, Autumn Andreasen, Sarah and C.J. McCabe, Jennifer and husband, Kevin Simpkins, Jason and wife, Shannon Kussman, Joshua and wife, Amber Kussman, and Justine Kussman; great-grandchildren – Haley, Lila, Austin , Tyler, Reagan, Haley, Brice, Brent, Gracie, Stetsen, Jaeten, Kassin, and Kannon; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life service for Glenn Eugene Andreasen, will be (was) Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at 10:30 a.m., at the Melby Mortuary Chapel, Mankato, Kansas, with Pastor Thaddeus Hinkle officiating. Casket bearers will be (were) – Lloyd Johnson, Phillip Walton, Berwyn Peterson, Kenneth Nelson, Gary Brinegar, Rory Andreasen, and C.J. McCabe. Military Honors will be (were) present by United States Army Honor Guard, Ft. Riley, Kansas, and taps by granddaughter, Sarah McCabe. Interment will be (was) in Mount Hope Cemetery, Mankato, Kansas. The family suggests memorials to the Jewell County Historical Society in care of the Mortuary. Melby Mortuary, Mankato, Kansas, was in charge of arrangement.
