Audrey L. Hamilton

Audrey Lois Hamilton was born March 3, 1934, on a farm near Burr Oak, Kansas, to Ivan and Helen McMillan. Audrey departed this life November 1, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska.

Audrey is preceded in death by her parents and brother Merle McMillan.

Audrey graduated from Burr Oak High School in 1952. On July 3, 1953, she married Donald L. Hamilton and they made their home in Mankato where they raised their two children Marilyn Kay Hamilton and Greg Dean Hamilton.

Audrey worked for Farm Bureau Insurance before a thirty-year career with the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. After retirement from the ASCS, she enjoyed working part-time at the Jewell County Record and the Central National Bank in Mankato. In addition to her other bank duties, she enjoyed serving as a tour coordinator for bus trips ranging from one day to multi-day trips as far away as Washington, D.C.

Audrey was baptized in the Mankato Christian Church June 15, 1967, and was presently serving as the church's Christian Gleaner Organization president.

Audrey's hobbies and interests included gardening, knitting, crocheting, quilting, ceramics, bridge, photography, collecting thimbles, and participating in an exercise group. She was a member of the Mankato Garden Club, local bridge club, and Christian Exercise Group.

Along with her husband, she enjoyed traveling including trips to Colorado to visit their children as well as receiving them at her home for the holidays. Most of all she cherished her family and friends.

Audrey is survived by her husband- Donald Hamilton of Mankato; brother and sister-in-law- Eldon and Shirley McMillan of Payette, Idaho, sister- Lorna McMillan of Beloit, Kansas, and children- Marilyn Hamilton of Lakewood, Colorado, Greg Hamilton of Boulder, Colorado; and many relatives.

Audrey will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, and a friend to everyone who knew her. To her family and friends, Audrey was indeed a joy. We shall miss her warmth, her grace, and her love.

A celebration of life service for Audrey L. Hamilton will be Monday, November 5, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at the Christian Church, Mankato, Kansas, with Pastor Thaddeus Hinkle officiating. The music for the service included, Mrs. Pat Grout, organist, and a quartet with Jon and Rosalie Menhusen, and Allen and Elaine Smith. They sang “Just a Closer Walk with Thee,” “He Touched Me” and “How Great Thou Art.” Casket bearers were – Carl Figgins, Rick Warneking, Lynn Scarrow, Mike Hamilton, Eddie Lucas, and Jerry Lucas. Interment will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Mankato, Kansas. Visitation will be Sunday, November 4, 2012, from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Melby Mortuary, Mankato, Kansas. The family suggest memorials be made to the Jewell County Emergency Medical Service or the Mankato Christian Church.
