Edena Lois (Eakins) Garman

Edena Lois (Eakins) Garman of Concordia, Kansas was born in Kinsley, Kansas, on November 21, 1930 to Margaret Jeanette Wallace and Vernon Lemuel Eakins. She passed away November 6, 2011 at Mitchell County Health Services in Beloit, Kansas. Edena was 80 years, 11 months and 6 days.

She attended several schools in her younger days of which included the school in Burr Oak, Kansas.
Edena had several siblings, Pat Cook, Neva Walker, Maxine Garman and Doug Wood.

She accepted the Lord in her life in 1950 at the Brethren Church.

She married William Lynn Garman on March 10, 1946 and they set out farming southwest of Burr Oak. To this union were born 8 children, Dennis, Deanna, Alyce, Sharon, David, Cynthia, Susan and Jennifer.

Edena loved reading, gardening especially flowers, country music, nature and animals. She had a witty sense of humor. Her memory was quite sharp and she loved to tell stories. She was a wonderful cook and always a gracious hostess. She enjoyed the simple things in life and yet was always helping someone less fortunate in some way.

The highlight of her life was when her family came to visit. Of course it might have been a lot of work but she enjoyed every minute of it.

Edena was preceded in death by her parents Margaret and Vernon Eakins, two sons, David Eugene and Dennis Lynn, three grandchildren, Gregory Garman, Dale Coffelt, and Laura Lynn Kerr and two sisters Neva Walker and Maxine Garman.

She is survived by her daughters Deanna Garman, DeSoto Kansas, Alyce (Darrel) Coffelt of Le Sueur Minnesota, Sharon (Chris) Martin of Hunter Oklahoma, Cynthia (Gordon) Wade of Wichita Kansas, Susan Crabtree of Brandenburg Kentucky, Jennifer Freel of Raleigh North Carolina, and two siblings Pat Cook and Doug Wood.

Surviving grandchildren and great grandchildren are Darin (Crystal) Garman and daughter Dariyn, Andy (Stacy) Kerr and daughters Madison and Makenna of De Soto Kansas. Jamie Gardner and her sons Adam and Zavier and daughter Gabriella of St Louis, Missouri. Chad (Bobi) Fogo, daughters Samantha and Alexandria and son Chace of Mankato Kansas. Justin (Mary) Fogo and sons Elijah and Finlay of Chelsea, Alabama. Johnna (John) Davidson and her daughters Logan and Lauren and son Taylor of Enid Oklahoma. Chanda (Brian) Mc Whorter, daughter Kaylee and son Blake of Las Vegas Nevada. Brandon Buskirk of Edmond, Oklahoma. Logan, Joshua and Ethan Crabtree of Brandenburg, Kentucky and Riley Freel of Raleigh, North Carolina.

Step grandchildren include Christopher Martin, Cheryl (Bob) Hulse and sons Brandon and Keaton of Maryville, Missouri. Stephanie (Don) Stratton sons Tyler, Jalen and Jack and daughters Cheyenne and Ashley of Topeka Kansas, Sarah, Jeff and Jess Wade and Stephanie Griffin of Oklahoma.

She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

A celebration of life service will be (was) held Friday, November 11, 2011, at 10:30 a.m., at the Christian Church, Burr Oak, Kansas, with Pastor Richard Cox officiating. Mrs. Gloria Garman-Schlaefli will be (was) the pianist, and son-in-law, Chris Martin, will be (was) guitarist and soloist. Casket bearers will be (were) Chad Fogo, Darin Garman, Justin Fogo, Andrew Kerr, Kenneth Garman, and Daniel Garman. Interment will be (was) in the Burr Oak Cemetery, Burr Oak. Kansas. The family suggests memorials to either O’Connor Animal Shelter, Concordia; Christian Church, Burr Oak; or donors choice.
