Zelma Pauline Hood

Pauline Hood was born on a farm in north Ashmore, IIllinois, in 1944. She passed away on Monday, at her home in Mankato, Kansas, at the age of 67. She was happiest when spending time with her family and taking care of them. Pauline’s favorite activities included being outdoors and working with flowers and gardening as well as reading and working on family history. One of her favorite projects was helping with the local high school play, making costumes each year. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother (plus great grandmother), and a dear friend to those who knew her.

Pauline is preceded in death by her parents, Doris (Thompson) and Lloyd Strader, and four brothers, John, James, and Harold Dean, and Charles.

Surviving her are her husband, Edwin Hood, children: Larry Hood of Mankato, Kansas; RaDonna Mister of Denver, Colorado; Sandra and Ron York of Grand Junction, Colorado; Char Anna and Bill Flippo of Ft. Riley, Kansas; and Maria Gay of Superior, Nebraska; 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and a sister, Maxine Shoot of Ashmore, Illinois, and brother, Gene and wife, Iva Strader of Paris, Illinois.

A celebration of Zelma Pauline Hood’s life will be held at the Christian Church in Mankato, Kansas, Saturday, August 13, 2011, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Thaddeus Hinkle officiating. Friends and family may stop and sign the register book for Pauline on Thursday and Friday, from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Mortuary Chapel. The family suggests memorials to given to the Grandchildren’s Education Fund, in care of the Melby Mortuary, P O Box 384, Mankato, Kansas, 66956. Inurnment will be at September 3, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Kansas, Illinois. The family will receive friends at the Ashmore Community Center after the grave side service. Melby Mortuary , Mankato, Kansas, and Caudil-King Funeral Home, Charleston, Illinois, is handling the arrangements.
