Alma Louise Tyler

Alma Louise Tyler was born March 26, 1915, to Johan Fredrich and Eva Marquaretta (Blehm) Wassemiller, at their homestead south of Monument, Kansas, in Logan County. She died May 2, 2007 at the Mitchell County Health System Hospital, Beloit, Kansas, at the age of 92 years, 1 month, and 6 days.

Alma attended both grade and high schools at Monument Consolidated School and graduated Salutatorian of her class in 1933. She lived near Monument until 1935, when she married Leslie Frost. To this union one daughter was born, Marilyn. She then moved to Mankato. Alma was a clerk at the J.C. Penny Store before she married Glenn Tyler in 1947. To this union two daughters were born, Glenda and Judy. Alma loved being a farmer’s wife, and working beside her husband on their farm. She raised chickens to dress and sell, and always had a productive garden and beautiful flowers to share with friends. Alma stayed busy canning the fruits, vegetables, and meats they raised on the farm.. She was a talented seamstress and made some of her daughters clothing and her husband’s western shirts. Alma loved long walks and enjoyed nature and God’s given earth. May she rest in peace.

Alma was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn on May 9, 1997; and thirteen siblings. She is survived by her daughters – Marilyn (Frost) and husband, Bill Fetrow of Mount Lake Terrace, Washington, Glenda and husband, Steve Davis of Hugoton, Kansas, and Judith Tyler of Mankato, Kansas; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson; a younger sister, Dorothea VanSchoonhoven of Sparks, Nevada, and a host of other relatives and friends.

A celebration of the life of Alma L. Tyler was held Thursday, May 10, 2007, at 2:00 p.m., at the Harmony United Methodist Church, Mankato, Kansas, with Pastor Laura Fricker officiating. Music was performed by Pat Grout, organist, and Jon and Rosalle Mennusen and Allen and Elaine Smith sang the “Old Rugged Cross” and “Amazing Grace.” Casket bearers were: Bill Fertow, Steve Davis, Robb Heger, Steve Demers, Jerry Wassemiller, and Ivan Katzenmeier. Interment was in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Mankato, Kansas. The family suggests memorials to be made to the Harmony United Methodist Church Bell Choir, Mankato, Kansas. Melby Mortuary, Mankato, Kansas, was in charge of arrangements.
