Ruth Elizabeth Oliver

Ruth Elizabeth (Barnes) Oliver was born October 23, 1932, at Red Cloud, Nebraska to Henry Keller and Eva Ethel (Carlton) Barnes. She passed away at the Jewell County Hospital, Mankato, Kansas, on March 16th, 2011, at the age of 78 years.

She received her formal education at the Red Cloud Schools. Ruth worked as a waitress for most of her life until arthritis forced her retirement.

In 1958, she married Percy Oliver and they made their home in Burr Oak. The couple adopted a daughter Rosie. The marriage was later dissolved.

Ruth enjoyed fishing and gardening. She had an extensive collection of angels, many of which were given to her by family and friends. Ruth was an avid reader and especially enjoyed reading Westerns. Ruth’s greatest love was for her nieces and nephews and she spent many hours babysitting them and their friends. She was “Aunt Ruth” to them all.

Ruth attended the Christian Church and was a willing worker at most funeral dinners.

She as preceded in death by her parents, brother Floyd, Charles, Jim, Gene and Junior; sisters Doramae and Virginia. She is survived by her daughter – Rose of West Valley City, Utah; sister – Hazel Myers of Wilber, Nebraska; brother – Clifford of Burr Oak, Kansas; nieces; nephews; and a host of friends.

Memorial services for Ruth E. Barnes will be (were) held at the Burr Oak Christian Church, Saturday, March 19th, 2011, at 10:30 a.m., with Pastor Richard Cox officiating. Wanda Frasier was the organist, and Wayne Fogo was the soloist. Inurnment was in the Burr Oak Cemetery, Burr Oak, Kansas. Memorials may be made to the family or to the Christian Church.
