Marlis Ann Lyons was born on August 12, 1943 to Donald and Leone Killough in Red Cloud, Nebraska. She graduated from Red Cloud High School in 1962. She attended college in Denver, Colorado and nursing assistant training in Kansas. She married the love of her life, Roy Gene Lyons on October 6, 1965 in South Dakota. Their union was blessed with three children. Marlis loved life and she was a beautiful, kind, caring, and compassionate person to everyone. Marlis spent her life taking care of others as well as her family. She took care of the elderly in their homes for a majority of her life and this truly was her passion. She loved to spend her free time working in her flower garden, sewing for her family, and making all kinds of beautiful crafts. Marlis loved to decorate her home for the holidays, especially at Christmas time, and cooking holiday meals to be with her family. She made special table name markers every holiday for each family member and made delicious homemade candy at Christmas. Marlis liked to spend her summer in the sun out camping or cookouts in her backyard with her family. Her deepest passion was the love for her family, grandchildren, and beloved pets. Marlis passed away on February 16, 2011 at BryanLGH West in Lincoln, Ne, at the young age of 67 after a short battle with leukemia.
Marlis was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Leone Killough, a baby sister at birth, and her step-father, Oris Boitnott from Red Cloud. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Roy Gene Lyons of Montrose, Ks. Her only son, Martin and Rebecca Lyons of Henderson, Ne and grandchildren, Portia, Dakota, and Ashton Lyons and Quinn Pavelka. Her oldest daughter, Pixie and Troy Kyle of St. Paul, Ne, and her youngest daughter, Melissa Serrano of Grand Island, Ne and grandchildren, Stephanie Lyons, Manuel and Marcos Serrano, and J.D. Moreno-Lyons. She was blessed with one great-granddaughter, AnnMarie Lyons whom was very special to her. Marlis also has two sisters - Carol and husband, Roger Ingram of Lebanon, Kansas, and Donna and Harold Wroblewski of Red Cloud, Nebraska. She has many more close family members and friends that were left behind to mourn her early departure from their lives.

A funeral service for Marlis A. Lyons was held Wednesday, February 23, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Jewell, Kansas, with Pastor Jim Rice officiating. Music was provided by Kenny Rhea. Casket bearers were: Patrick Ginn, Martin Lyons, Cody DeVaney, Lyndon Ginn, Manuel Serrano, Randy Williams, Dakota Lyons, and Troy Kyle. Honorary casket bearers were: Blair Lyons, and Leon Lyons. Interment followed a graveside service at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 23, 2011, at the Red Cloud City Cemetery, Red Cloud, Nebraska. Visitation was Monday 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday, 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 pm at the Melby Mortuary, Mankato, Kansas. The family suggests memorials to be given in honor of Marlis A. Lyons, and a charity will be named at a later date. Melby Mortuary, Mankato, Kansas, was in charge of arrangements.
