G. Wybern Berneking

G. Wybern Berneking, of Formoso, Kansas, was born March 18, 1925, in Simpson, Kansas, to George and Esther (Koch) Berneking, and died Tuesday, January 18, 2011, at the age of 85 years.

He was married to Ruth Field on August 14, 1949, at Formoso Community Church, Formoso, Kansas.

Wybern served with the U.S. Navy, on the ship USS Juno, during World War II. He was a farmer and carpenter in the Formoso area. Wybern was a member of the Formoso Community Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth of 61 years; daughters – Jayne and husband , Phil Hopper of Indianola, Iowa, and Terri and husband, Bob Ross; and son – Kirk and wife, Beckie Berneking, both of Salina, Kansas; and six grandchildren.

A celebration of life service for G. Wybern Berneking was held Saturday, January 22, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., at the Formoso Community Church, Formoso, Kansas, with Pastor Gene Little officiating. Organist was Phyllis Hurd, and the congregation sang “Old Rugged Cross” and “In the Garden.” United States Navy provided military honors. Interment was in the Balch Cemetery, Formoso, Kansas. The family suggests memorials to Formoso Community Church, Formoso, Kansas. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Melby Mortuary, Mankato, Kansas, Friday, January 21, 2011.
